Today, we honor the memory of Hakim Da, the extraordinary artisan who helped shape Miharu's vision and introduced us to the world of intricate Dhokra jewelry. This is a story shared by our founder, Parul Bajoria, whose journey with Hakimda became the cornerstone of Miharu’s commitment to quality and craftsmanship.
"When I first started Miharu, my mission was to find skilled artisans who could transform our ideas into reality. On one of my trips to Shantiniketan, I met Hakimda, a humble yet confident man dressed in a blue checkered lungi and a pale white kurta. His Dhokra creations stood out immediately—each piece was meticulously crafted with precision and elegance that was hard to miss.
Our collaboration began with a small order, but it didn’t take long for me to realize that Hakimda was no ordinary artisan. His passion for his craft was evident in every piece he made. Unlike others, he took immense pride in finishing his work to perfection—ensuring that even the smallest details, like the edges of the waxed thread, were seamlessly hidden. His attention to detail became the benchmark for the quality we uphold at Miharu.
Spending time with him, I discovered the depth of his artistry. Hakimda was not interested in mass production. Instead, he valued crafting 20-25 pieces at a time, each one an intricate work of art that carried his heart and soul. His focus on creating perfectly symmetrical designs with a flawless finish defined the true essence of Dhokra craftsmanship.
Hakimda’s unwavering commitment to quality was something we deeply admired. He never compromised on his standards, even when it meant turning down large orders. He believed in creating pieces that embodied authenticity and excellence, and this philosophy resonated with the values of Miharu.
For seven years, we worked together, and Hakimda became more than just an artisan—he became a mentor. His mastery of Dhokra, along with his independent spirit, laid the foundation of what Miharu stands for today. His untimely passing left a void in our brand, but his legacy of passion and dedication continues to inspire us.
I fondly remember how he would arrive, like one of the 'feriwaalas', bringing along beautiful chunks of Dhokra and proudly explaining the hours it took to create the base of each mould. His meticulous approach to his work was awe-inspiring, and to this day, we strive to maintain the high standards he set.
As we pay tribute to Hakim Da, we also celebrate his belief in authenticity—an ethos that remains at the heart of Miharu."
Hakimda’s contributions to Miharu are immortalized in every piece of Dhokra jewelry we create. His influence continues to guide us as we bring this ancient craft to life, celebrating both its rich heritage and the hands that create it.
